Where to meet for eating, drinking coffee, hanging out on the terrace, shopping, going to the opera, or attending the various performances that take place in the city center? The favorite answer of Montpellier is undoubtedly "à la Comédie! ".
The Place de la Comédie is the heart of Montpellier, although its history tells us that it has not always been. Stretched in terraces of cafés and restaurants, it hosts most of the cultural, festive, informative, shopping and sports events in Montpellier. Such as the Christmas market, the Comédie du Livre or the Montpellier Beach Masters. The majestic Opera and the statue of the Three Graces, in the center of the egg (the square was formerly named after the red oval border around the three Graces), is worth the detour. The Gaumont cinema and the Monoprix supermarket are the only two signs installed directly on the square, along with two other competing fast food brands.
The tour continues up the "Rue de la Loge". A shopping street where mainly shoes and ready-to-wear shops are found. It is a very popular street because it is the link between the present and the old heart of the city: Place Jean Jaurès. Today, this is the "trendy" place of Montpellier, full of coffee terraces, busy day and night. The traces of the history of the Place Jean Jaurès are located in the basement, in the crypt Notre-Dame-des-Tables located under the square, where the Museum of the history of Montpellier settled.
The "Rue de la Loge" ends a few meters higher on the flower market of "Les Halles Castellane".
This area is, without doubt, the highlight when coming to Montpellier.
